As a couple, you know there is still deep love and commitment towards each other but there seems to be a disconnection that keeps resulting in a repeating pattern of miscommunication and conflict. You try to remind yourself of why you fell in love with the other person, but conflict either triggers you to blow up or completely shutdown. Both of you try to talk it out, but the conflict either remains at a deadlock or gets even worse. When both of you remember the “good old days” of the relationship, it feels like such a far away memory that you are struggling to believe will ever come back. Life’s many hurdles, stressors, and changes over the years have slowly made both of you drift apart in trust and connection.

Confused as to why you can’t “get it together,” frustrated at the fact that the relationship is not what you want it to be, and afraid that it all might come crashing down - you’re overwhelmed, scared, and completely exhausted. Unfortunately, life doesn’t stop for us to take a break and deal with our growing list of hurts, and often we’re not even sure where to start. We find bandages to cover up our wounds so we can push forward - like numbing out or keeping busy, but over time, those temporary bandages don’t suffice, and our old hurts spill over to the present. Life seems like a never-ending loop of pain, loneliness, confusion, and shame.
